Tell us a bit about yourself
Have lived in Dacorum almost all of my 60 years. Retired from the banking/finance world a couple of years ago. Like to keep active, mentally, and physically.
What do you do within your volunteering role/roles?
Community Transport (including taking those who need to visit hospital, clinics, surgeries as well as driving nurses to vaccinate those unable to leave their home) and stewarding at local Vaccination centre.
How long have you been a volunteer?
Why did you decide to start volunteering?
At the start of lockdown one, the call went out for volunteers and I recalled the strong feeling of well-being the volunteers at the 2012 Olympics bestowed on others and I also wanted to help those who could no longer help themselves.
Why would you recommend volunteering to others?
The number of passengers I take who say that without us they could not get to their medical or social appointments as well as knowing that we're making a difference.
Is there anything you’ve been doing specifically relating to or because of Coronavirus that you’d like to tell us about?
Taking the nurses around to vaccinate those who are unable to leave their homes but rely on carers and the like come to them really opened my eyes to the level and need for social care for the less well off.
